Good evening. Today
could have gone either way. If Nebraska converts
on 4th down, we may have had a bad day as a group. Since they didn't, we largely had a good
day. There were 2 upsets, but they were
on the two games that were the closest to toss ups anyway, so someone was bound
to lose some points on those games anyway.
As a group, we wound up getting 2.84 games correct out of
5. The average points gained today was
63.32, and the average points lost was 36.96.
That means that we averaged a net of 26.36 points on the day.
Two people managed to go 5/5 today, and both of them were
featured in yesterday's post. The first
was Jim W., who managed to go winless yesterday. He picked up 96 points by going 5/5
today. That was good enough to bring him
back from yesterday's winless debacle going from 46th at the start of the day
to 30th. The second person to go 5/5
today was my Mom. I looked it up, and my
Mom has gone 9/9 in the last 9 bowl games.
The main downside of that is that she is only averaging 13 points per
win over that stretch. After the last
loss (Hawaii Bowl), she was in 55th place.
9 straight wins later, she has moved all the way up to 48th place. Ouch.....
Everyone managed to get at least one victory today, although
it was pretty touchy there for a while as Presley J. was 0/4 going into the USC
game. Good thing for him that USC won, as
he is also one of the biggest USC fans I know.
It salvaged 37 points for him and he gets to enjoy his off season with a
victory. Sadly, he lost 100 points the rest
of the day, garnering him the prize for most points lost on the day. Despite that, he didn't really move much in
the standings. He started the day in
52nd place and ended in 53rd.
It seems like moving has been hard to come by this late in
the game. I think that lends credence to my theory that
in order to win, you have to predict some upsets and actually have them come
through. That would separate you from
the field. The other option is to nail
as many winners as possible, but that seems a lot harder to do.
Speaking of which, we aren't even half way done with this
pool. We are 18 games in, and there is a
4-way tie for wins with 13:
CBS Hinnen (1st overall, 1st in net points)
Hal R. #2 (10th overall, 10th in net points)

There are no games tomorrow, since the NFL reigns supreme on
Sundays. I'll be back tomorrow night to
go over the games for Monday, where there'll be another 3 games on the
schedule, and we'll go past the 1/2 way point in the pool.
Good luck to everyone!!!!!
