After GoDaddy Bowl

It looks like we had a little of both sides of the upset equation today.  One game was a blowout by the favorite (Boise State), and the other was a blowout as an upset (Georgia Southern).  We probably won't have a bigger upset all season, as that game was the 4th most lopsided pick distribution.  That means unless Texas Tech beats LSU, Tulsa beats Virginia Tech or Kansas State beats Arkansas, we have seen our biggest upset of the bowl season.

Good job to 5 people for actually getting that game right.  Given that, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that only 3 people went 2/2 today.  The big winner was Damien R. #1.  He gathered up 54 points and moved up from 33rd to 25th.  There's still a long way to go to get to the top, but this certainly helps.

Since there was one non-upset today, almost everyone managed to get some kind of points.  The average net points today was roughly zero (-.9).  Similarly to the 3 top of the daily standings, only 3 people managed to go 0/2.  The big loser of the day unfortunately was Nichole W.  She lost 68 points on the day.  That's a rough day.  That dropped her from 10th in net points to 29th.  Not out of it by any stretch, but you probably don't want a repeat performance there.

Here are the overall standings:

Tomorrow is the most important day in the entire bowl pool in my opinion.  It features both of my alma maters.  I have a BA from Western Michigan and a MA from San Diego State, so I'll have plenty to root for tomorrow.  Here are the particulars, first for the Bahamas Bowl:

Western Michigan: 37  (Average pick = 20.08)
Middle Tennessee: 7  (Average pick = 9.86)

The median pick is Western Michigan for 18 points.  The average pick is Western Michigan for 15.32 points.  The Vegas line was Western Michigan by 5 points.  7 people have Western Michigan as a top 10 play, including my Dad who has it for 41 points.  Somehow, my Mom took Middle Tennessee in what I can only describe as disappointing, since she is also a graduate from WMU.  Booo.....  Go Broncos!!!!

The second game of the day is the Hawaii Bowl.  I think these two games couldn't really be any further away from each other geographically.  Here are the particulars:

San Diego State: 29 (Average pick = 18.93)
Cincinnati: 15 (Average pick = 18.47)

The median pick is San Diego State for 9.5 points.  The average pick is San Diego State for 6.18 points.  This game is one of the top 10 in terms of variance of picks, which means that the spread of points people have wagered is pretty big, so winning this game could go a long way to determining the winner of this.  I just hope that the Aztecs are the winners.

Good luck to everyone!!!!
