There's a little downtime before the Cure Bowl starts, so
let's start with that:
Here's the breakdown for the Cure Bowl:
Vegas Line: Western
Kentucky (-6.5)
Median: Western
Kentucky for 8 points
Mean: Western
Kentucky for 9.6 points
Picks for Western
Kentucky: 39 (Average: 20.64 points)
Points for Western
Kentucky: 805 (24th overall)
Picks for
Grambling: 19 (Average: 13.11 points)
Points for
Grambling: 249 (63rd overall)
People with Western
Kentucky as a top 10 pick: 9
People with Georgia
State as a Top 10 pick: 3 (Becky H., Ryan W., Tim N.)
I will be wearing
my Western Kentucky shirt today, since this is the game I have the most points
on today. Go Hilltoppers!!!
The Cure Bowl is
another middle of the pack bowl game.
This one ranks 25th on points wagered.
I was looking at
who has the most to gain or lose today, and it's an interesting look at how
people pick. It looks like there are 5
people that took the minimum points possible today. These are the people that adopted the 1-40
strategy of just assigning points in chronological order. I'm always a little dubious about the
effectiveness of that method, since it doesn't guarantee that you wil lbe alive
for any longer than otherwise. Not only
that, if you start off poorly, there is a pretty good chance that you will
never be near the top of the standings in any capacity. It also means that towards the end, you probably
need to win a lot of games you didn't really feel that strongly about just to
make up points. That being said, if one
of those sheets wins, everything I just wrote goes out the window. The actual right answer to how to win this
thing is whatever strategy wnds up winning.
There is no magic sauce.
So, here's what
people have at stake today:

A bit
surprised to see what strong feelings Clucko the Chicken has on this opening
day. Then again, I'm guessing that his
picks were more or less random, so who knows.
I'm a little surprised that I had so many picks near the top of the
scale. That scares me a little. Unlike the 1-40 method, it doesn't appear
that anyone took the 40-1 method. There
doesn't seem to be much of a reason why you would choose one over the other,
but no one did.
Enjoy the
Cure Bowl. I'll be back with results
later.....
