The Gasparilla is attacking Tokyo edition

I hope everyone enjoyed their winter solstice, and their Gasparilla Bowl festivities.  It looked like it was at least a closer game the last two had been, although I think Lions vs. Christians would've been a little closer than the last two games.  I caught a decent chunk of the game.  I came in a little bit late, but I think that Florida International QB was knocked out of the game by the time I turned the game on.  The back-up threw 2 INTs before he completed a pass to his own team, which made me think we were heading in the 50-0 direction, but it was relatively close for most of the game.  Eventually Temple pulled away and won the game, notching a victory for the favorite.  That made a pretty big difference in the standings, although the top of the 2 standings didn't change.  Tim N. still leads the gross points (+30 points) and Ally H. leads the net points (+37 points).  Continued good picking to those two.  Here are the gross points standings:

There are 2 games tomorrow, and they start really early.  The first game goes off at 12:30, so I won't be watching much of that game, since I will be busy at work.  It's the Bahamas Bowl.  Historically, this game has been pretty fun to watch, although I don't remember a whole lot of people actually attending the game.  Apparently, American football isn't all that popular in the Bahamas.  Much like today's Gasparilla Bowl, the Bahamas Bowl takes over the 2nd place in rankings for points wagered of the games that will have been played.  It ranks 13 with a total of 1388 points (23.93 average).

Here's the graph followed by the particulars:

Vegas Line: Ohio (-6.5)
Median: Ohio for 24 points
Mean: Ohio for 19.3 points
Picks for Ohio: 48 (Average: 26.15 points)
Points for Ohio: 1255 (11th overall)
Picks for UAB: 10 (Average: 13.3 points)
Points for UAB: 133 (75th overall)
People with Ohio as a top 10 pick: 21
People with UAB as a Top 10 pick: 0

People really seem to be invested in Ohio.  Given how many 6-7 point spread games we've seen go the other way so far, this seems like it might be a good pick up option if you were one of the people who took UAB.  I'm a little partial to UAB, since they did away with their football program a few years back when they could've qualified for a Bowl game and no one selected them.  I always thought that was a raw deal for them.  It would be fun to see them win.

The second game of the day is the Potato Bowl played on the blue turf in Boise.  I always thought this was the worst bowl game of them all.  At least most of the other games have fun or interesting destinations to go to, but who wants to go to Idaho in December?  I guess you could make a similar case for the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit.  It doesn't look like anyone knows how to pick this one.  This game has the fewest points wagered on it.  I think this is the only game where both teams are in the bottom half of points wagered.  So, this may wind up being a bit of a tiebreaker type of game.  It probably won't win you the pool outright, but if you are close to the top, this game could put you over the top.

Here are the graphs and the particulars:

Vegas Line: Wyoming (-3)
Median: 0 points - evenly divided between teams
Mean: Wyoming for 1.9 points
Picks for Wyoming: 29 (Average: 16.21 points)
Points for Wyoming: 470 (44th overall)
Picks for Central Michigan: 29 (Average: 12.34 points)
Points for Central Michigan: 358 (50th overall)
People with Wyoming as a top 10 pick: 3
People with Central Michigan as a Top 10 pick: 2 (Ally H., Mindi W.)

Good luck to everyone tomorrow.  I'll be back after both games are over.
