The end of the chalk run edition.

Good evening everyone.  I was beginning to fear that we had seen an end to the upsets, but these last 2 games wound up going to the underdogs, putting an end to about a 5-6 game run of favorites winning.  Despite 3 of the 4 games being little more than coin tosses, we didn't really do all that well as a group.  Almost everyone got Florida State for 1 game correct, but the overall average for the day was only 2.21 wins out of 4.  Compliments of the 39 points that most people had on Florida State, the average net points gained today was +20.22, which is pretty decent.

Amazingly, only 2 people went 4/4 today.  The biggest winner of the day was Scott H. #2, who hit for 124 points.  This day came kind of out of nowhere for Scott H. #2.  Up until today, this entry had a net point sum of -53, so despite the great day, he only moves up to 22nd in net points.  Still, that's better the 50th place that he was in yesterday.  It probably keeps his sheet alive for longer as well.

The other 4/4 sheet was the one I entered for the consensus picks on the website I found that also had Clucko the Chicken.  This entry has been pretty awful all along, and I think that even with the 4/4 showing today, it's still pretty awful.  The reason I say this is because it only netted +54, which was only good for 6th on the day. That's not capitalizing on a good day.

Speaking of good days, Mindi W. had a good day, netting 56 points.  She's still in last place in net points, but I've been giving her a hard time in this blog and I feel it's only fair to point out the good day she had today.

On the flip side, the big losers on the day were the dual entries for Bartosz R.  He managed to gain 28 points on Florida State, but lost 79 points on the rest of the games to finish the day -51.  Unfortunately, that lands them right near the bottom, just 1 and 2 spots from last respectively.  Ouch.

There are another 4 games tomorrow.  The good news is that after tomorrow, I can calculate the odds for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.  That's always a fun time.  None of the games tomorrow are in the top 10 for points wagered, so it's a lot of also-ran teams although I think that we are dipping into the games that feature ranked teams.  That should make for improved games.

The first game of the day is the Military Bowl, which is has the fewest points left of any Bowl game.  I assume Navy will have an advantage playing in Anapolis.  However, it looks like the weather may be terrible, so maybe it will be fun to watch in HD.  That's something, I guess.  Here's the particulars

Vegas Line: Virginia (-1)
Median: Navy for 12.5 points
Mean: Navy for 9.7 poins
Picks for Navy: 45 (Average: 17 points)
Points for Navy: 765 (28th overall)
Picks for Virginia: 13 (Average: 15.54 points)
Points for Virginia: 202 (69th overall)
People with Navy as a top 10 pick: 5
People with Virginia as a Top 10 pick: 1 (Mindi W.)
Klei's Pick: Navy for 2 points.

The second game of the day is the Camping World Bowl.  I think this is the game of the day that has the highest ranked teams in it.  Hopefully that means the game is pretty good.  I'll probably be at work for a good chunk of it, so I may never know.

Vegas Line: Oklahoma State (-6)
Median: Oklahoma State for 23.5 points
Mean: Oklahoma State for 15.4 points
Picks for Oklahoma State: 47 (Average: 23.26 points)
Points for Oklahoma State: 1093 (14th overall)
Picks for Virginia Tech: 11 (Average: 17.91 points)
Points for Virginia Tech: 197 (70th overall)
People with Oklahoma State as a top 10 pick: 13
People with Virginia Tech as a Top 10 pick: 0
Klei's Pick: Oklahoma State for 4 points.

Here are the next two games.  Because I want to get some sleep tonight, I am presenting them without comment:

Vegas Line: TCU (-6)
Median: TCU for 11 points
Mean: TCU for 6.5 points
Picks for TCU: 41 (Average: 17.29 points)
Points for TCU: 709 (31st overall)

People with TCU as a top 10 pick: 2 (Jay H. #1, Jay H. #2)
People with Stanford as a Top 10 pick: 4
Klei's Pick: TCU for 5 points.

...and the last game of the day:

Vegas Line: Michigan State (-2.5)
Median: Michigan State for 11 points
Mean: Michigan State for 0.4 points
Picks for Michigan State: 30 (Average: 17.77 points)
Points for Michigan State: 533 (40th overall)
Picks for Washington State: 28 (Average: 18.18 points)
Points for Washington State: 509 (42nd overall)
People with Michigan State as a top 10 pick: 5
People with Washington State as a Top 10 pick: 2 (Myles G., Sally R.)
Klei's Pick: Michigan State for 16 points.

That's it for now.  I'll be back tomorrow night with updated standings, and hopefully a list of probabilities of winning and some elimination games.  Again, not a fan of cramming 4 games a day onto the schedule.  Spreading them out over several days would be much better for me.

Good luck to everyone!!!!
