I hope everyone enjoyed their Sunday. It was a good rest from all the football on
Saturday, but we are back at it again tomorrow.
The nice thing about the next few days is that we don't get flooded with
games. They come one at a time, so you
can see just how much you went up or down as a result of that game alone. A lot of the other times I don't send out
updates after every game because by the time I finish writing up things, another
game has finished and I'd have to start all over again.
Anyway, just one game tomorrow - the Boca Raton Bowl. This promises to be one of the worst games of
the entire Bowl season. Take a look at
the distribution for the game:
That's a pretty heavily weighted distribution. I was a little surprised, looking at this
graph that this was not the game with the most points wagered on it. It is actually 3rd (behind the Peach Bowl and
the Championship Game). It is, however,
the game that Vegas thinks will be the most lopsided - and it's not even
close. Florida Atlantic is a 23 point
favorite. That's 7.5 points more points
than the second biggest point spread (Independence Bowl).
Here are the particulars:
Vegas Line: Florida
Atlantic (-23)
Median: Florida
Atlantic for 39.5 points
Mean: Florida
Atlantic for 23.1 points
Picks for Florida
Atlantic: 48 (Average: 31.71 points)
Points for Florida
Atlantic: 1522 (3rd overall)
Picks for Akron: 10
(Average: 18.1 points)
Points for Akron:
181 (71st overall)
People with Florida
Atlantic as a top 10 pick: 34
People with Akron
as a Top 10 pick: 1 (Joel S. #3)
I'm pulling for Akron to win this one. I only have Florida Atlantic for 23 points,
so a loss would move me up the net points standings, if not the gross point
rankings. A few other reasons I would
like to see Akron win is because I graduated from a MAC school, so I always
root for MAC schools in Bowl games. I
also am not a big fan of Lane Kiffin. He
seems like a bit of a jerk, and I like to see jerks get their
come-uppance. Also, I like to reward
teams for taking risks. If Akron wins,
that would be at least a 40 point swing in the standings for whoever put their
money on the Zips. It's quite a long
shot, but we will see tomorrow if that was a risk worth taking.
I'll post updated standings and a preview of the Frisco Bowl
after the game finishes. Good luck to
everyone!!!!
