NCAA Day 2 - 2 games in

I finally made it down to my brother's place in time for the early games.  I've got some donuts (which are delicious - as always, an unpaid endorsement for VG's Donuts in Cardiff, CA).  My Dad got some KFC yesterday, and - fun fact - I have never in my life eaten KFC.  We'll see how that goes today.

The set up we have is that we have to giant TV's mounted on the wall.  That's where we put the closest games.  We also have 2 laptops on the coffee table to put the, let's call them "less than competitive" games.  We have decided to call them "laptop" games.  In that we have them on the laptops so that we can still see them, but they aren't really worth watching.

As soon as the Marshall / Wichita State game came on, the Purdue game instantly became a "laptop" game.  It was kind of close early on, but it hasn't been for quite a while.  Since only 4 people actually picked CS Fullerton, and no one had them going any further than 1 game, this game could not be more irrelevant (with the possible exception of Virginia / UMBC).

The best game of the morning so far was the Providence / Texas A&M game.  I guess the scheduling people got it right putting that one first, as it was close virtually the entire time until the last 5 minutes or so, when Texas A&M pulled away.  As I mentioned last night, this was a trendy upset pick.  More people picked Providence despite them being the worse seed.  As it is with a lot of 10/7 games, this was a pretty even split, so the standings shook up a little bit.

There are still 2 games going on.  Marshall was winning for most of the first half, as was Georgia State.  I'd like to see either of those upsets to happen.  They would certainly throw a wrench in a lot of brackets, which would make me really happy.

The next two games feature one potentially good game, and another one almost destined to be relegated to "laptop" status.

North Carolina vs Lipscomb

Vegas Line: North Carolina by 20

This is our first opportunity to see the defending national champs.  I was looking at the bracket, and there's a real chance we could see a rematch of the Championship game in the Regional final if Gonzaga and North Carolina win enough games.  I know nothing about Lipscomb other than they play in the same conference as Florida Gulf Coast, so maybe they can pull an upset?  Who am I kidding.  This game is going to push the 34.5 maximum spread over/under.

Butler / Arkansas

Vegas Line: Butler by 1.5

I think 7/10 games are everyone's upset specials.  I think in all instances except Rhode Island / Oklahoma, more people took the 10 seed over the 7 seed.  If I remember correctly, ESPN has a BRI index that says that Butler was underseeded and Arkansas was overseeded, and that these teams should have switched seeds.  Based on the point spread and picks, that seems reasonable.  I'll be happy if it's close.  Since I don't have a strong feeling for either of these teams, and an upset won't do much to people's brackets, I'm just hoping for a close game.
