NCAA Day 2 - Marshall upset

Hey, hey, hey!!!  Marshall!  Marshall!  Marshall!  It's the first big upset of the day.  It's not quite as big an upset as Arizona yesterday, but about half the field had them making it to the Sweet 16.  Plus, Marshall was a 11.5 point underdog, so not exactly a game most people were looking to.  This is the kind of game that has a serious effect on the net points rankings depending on how far you took Wichita State to go, where as the total points isn't changed that much because you only get one point for getting Marshall right.  Honestly, most people had Villanova beating Wichita State, which may have prevented a lot of further bracket carnage.

The Georgia State game was a big of an also-ran to the Marshall game for me.  Georgia State had a 1-point deficit  with about 7 minutes to go, and I was pretty excited to see a big upset, but Cincinnati pulled away to win comfortably.  The funny thing was that the officials in the Marshall game were taking forever to review calls that both games ended pretty close to the same time, despite one game starting 30-45 minutes before the other.  I would say that officials get 30 seconds to make a call.  If they can't figure it out in that amount of time, you go with whatever was called.  I think they should do this in football too.  There is nothing more excruciating than parsing frames of film for 5 minutes just to make one call.

I kept yelling about how Lipscomb was beating North Carolina for a good chunk of the first half.  I was joking that they were going to beat the defending National Champion in the school's first ever NCAA game.  Well, it was short lived.  North Carolina is up 9 at half time.

I also thought Butler was going to run away with the Arkansas game.  I turned my head and suddenly it was 21-2.  Now Arkansas has taken the lead, so it looks like we've got a game.  I guess it should come as no surprise as this was one of the 5 games today where the point spread was 2.5 or less.  Should be a fun second half.

This game seems like it was pretty similar to the Marshall game as far as seed and point spread.  The winner plays Marshall, so we might be seeing the start of a wacky bracket.  Everyone likes to pick a 12 over a 5, so I'm guessing that's why there are so many people taking Murray here.  West Virginia is always tough to match up against, and I think they were ranked in the top 5 at some point this season.  Then again, so was Arizona State and where are they now.  I'm going to pull for the Racers.

Texas vs Nevada

Vegas Line: Texas by 1.5

Texas picks:  98

Nevada:  125

A little of both on this one.  Texas is favored, but more people are picking Nevada.  I guess I was wrong earlier.  This is a 7/10 game where more people took the 7, even though the spread said that you should do the opposite.  That's probably why I thought more people would take Texas.  I'm guessing this is the Mountain West influence on my picking population. A lot of us went to San Diego State, and even though SDSU crushed Nevada in the MWC tournament, people still root for MWC teams.  That's how I feel about MAC teams also.
