 This game didn’t really change the stranding too much, as about 98% of the field had Michigan going to the Sweet 16.

Michigan looked really good, but this Michigan team is kind of everything that is wrong with college basketball.  The reason Major League Baseball is going to have a strike next year is because there is no salary cap, and every big name free agent is going to be signed by one of a handful of really rich teams.  So, if you are a mid-market team, like the Detroit Tigers, you don’t have a very big window to win anything before all your really talented players get scooped up by the Dodgers, Yankees or Red Sox.

Well, College Basketball is like that only worse, since there are no contracts in college basketball, every player is a free agent after every season.  So, teams with a lot of money, and Michigan certain is that, can just buy up whatever talent they want.  Honestly, if the rules stay the way they are, it will be a failure for any Michigan team that doesn’t make the at least the Sweet 16.

That being said, it’s not Michigan’s fault.  They are just playing by the rules that are set, but it makes the season and the tournament a whole lot less interesting.

If Michigan is ahead of the times on assembling a team, I feel like Tom Izzo is a little bit behind the times.  I don’t hear a whole lot about them ever landing a big transfer.  I assume they do, because all teams do now, but I feel like Michigan State seems to restock their talent pool with High School recruits more than reloads with established college guys.

I don’t know much about this Louisville squad.  Last year, they were my Cinderella darlings in the tournament only to get bounced in the first round.  How much of that team carried over to this year?  Who knows anymore.  I assume not much, but they still managed to put together a decent team.  I thought they were overseeded as a 6, and I still do.  Then again, I thought Michigan State was overseeded as a 3, so what do I know.

Surprisingly, only 4 people have a Michigan / Michigan State, and really only 2 people, because 3 of those brackets belong to the same person.  I love to see the Michigan enthusiasm.  I usually wish good things for the sports fans of Michigan.

I’m keeping a running total until it breaks, but we have had at least 17 straight games where the favored team has won.  It’s sad that I even feel the need to put something like this together, but here we are.
