The first two games of the night were really good, and I missed most of them since I get out of work pretty late. I got my popcorn ready and started watching the second games, and they were…. less good.
We did get a pretty significant upset, at least as far as
the picks go in Illinois beating Houston.
I think Houston was a really sexy pick coming into the tournament. Florida was the weakest of the #1 seeds and
Houston would be playing Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games in Houston. That, and they finished as runner-up last
year, so had some extra motivation. This
Houston team wasn’t as good as last year’s team (in my opinion). They were good, don’t get me wrong, but there
are going to be some pretty good teams that go home at this point in the tournament.
Nobody managed to go 4/4 tonight. Only 31 people managed to go 3/4. There are 16 people that can still get all
remaining points. A few notes about
those 16 people. One is the Barack Obama
bracket, which is the only one of the 16 that can’t get 1st
place. He is 1 point behind Wayne Der.
#1 and has exactly the same remaining picks.
Every year, I enter a bunch of brackets that I find on-line, just to see
how they will do. The Barack Obama one
is like this. I entered Ken Pom and Seth
Davis. I almost entered Snoop Dogg and
Sexyy Red’s brackets but ran out of time.
Anyway, anyone can do this, and it looks like 4 people took their picks
directly from an ESPN article called “Jay Bilas predicts every game of the NCAA
Tournament”. I entered this bracket,
which is doing quite well, but then I noticed that even though it was in 3rd
place in points, there were some others around it that looked suspiciously
similar. Sure enough, my Jay Bilas
bracket has 100% the same picks as Leuder 2, Mike Lu. #3 and Pete J. #5. What this means is that if this looks like it’s
going to be the winner, we will need a 4 way tie-breaker. Then again, he has Michigan State in the
Final game, so it’s far from a guarantee.
