Good evening everyone. I’ve got a lot of cool stats for everyone tonight. I figured out the probabilities for 2nd thru 4th. Remember that these are based on the odds of every game being a coin flip, which they obviously aren’t, so take these with a grain of salt. That being said, if you are mathematically eliminated, there’s no real getting around that with different weighting.
So, there are 40 people that eliminated from any of the 4
payouts. Sadly, we bid adieu to these
brackets. Better luck next year:

payouts, but still alive to win the East Region. That’s the good news. The bad news is that if he does win, it will
be part of a 10-way tie, so that would only be a $2.50 prize. Still, better than no prize, which is what a
lot of us are going to get.
Below is the odds matrix.
It is ranked based on odds of winning anything, which means I sunned up
the odds for 1st thru 4th and put them in the order of
the total. This works because you can’t
win more than one spot with one bracket.
If you see the word: Initial, that means you are already out for that spot. I will be filling this in as teams get
knocked out, so you can determine who you need to fade next year.

I managed to find a bunch of code that makes finding the
eliminations a lot easier, and I added some additional code that makes it
faster for me that I’m sure no one cares about, but I am able to generate the single
game eliminations for the 1st games on Thursday already.
Remember, on Thursday night there are 2 staggered double-headers. What I am going to give you is the
eliminations for each game as a stand-alone, and I’ll update everything once
the first 2 games are done. If you see
your name on any of these lists, you must win that game. There are probably a bunch of instances where
no one game would knock you out, but the combination of the 2 results
does. I don’t have a great way to
present that, so pay extra close attention to the matrix between the 2 games.

I love how a ton of people picked Purdue, but there are
still going to be a ton of people knocked out if Purdue wins. I’m guessing these are the people that had
Gonzaga going pretty far. Now that
Gonzaga is out, they need to keep the Purdue people from getting any points, so
they don’t get passed in the standings.

If you don’t see your name anywhere on here,
congratulations, you are probably going to survive until the second set of
games. It looks like the Iowa / Nebraska
game is a bit of free roll for a lot of people.
A lot of people had Florida here, and a few people had Vanderbilt, so if
you happened to have Nebraska or Iowa, this is a real opportunity to pick up 4
points on the field.
I think the real blood bath is probably going to be the
Houston / Illinois game later on Thursday night. Yikes.
