I think that line will surprise some people. Vegas thinks that Illinois is slightly better
than Kentucky, but Kentucky is the 3 seed and Illinois is the 6. I think this represents 2 of the bigger
seeding story lines in this tournament.
I think the committee overseeded the SEC, and slightly underseeded the
Big 10. I think both of these teams have
had really good games, but both seem pretty inconsistent to me. I think Illinois has the higher ceiling,
which may account for the point spread. According
to the lines, this should be the most exciting game of the day. It certainly will go a long way towards the
winner of this pool.

Vegas Line: Alabama -5.5
5.5 doesn’t seem like much to me. Alabama showed a little something in pulling
out their first round game against Robert Morris, but it certainly wasn’t the
walk in the park people were expecting in a 15/2 game. Robert Morris had the lead in the second half
of that game. St. Mary’s was down 7 at
half-time, but dominated in the 2nd half, thus sparing us a
potential SEC v SEC 2nd round game.
I’m hoping Alabama peaked too early, and that St. Mary’s wins here. Plus, you know… Mid-major v power conference. It’s like catnip.
