I said I’d have a preview of the next game, and I nearly forgot to do it.
Here we go:
Famous Toastery Bowl
Vegas Line: Old Dominion -3.5
Median Pick: Western Kentucky for 4 points
Average Pick: Western Kentucky for 2.3 points
Picks for Western Kentucky: 44 (Average Pick: 13.16 points)
Picks for Old Dominion: 26 (Average Pick: 15.35 points)
There are only a few interesting things about this bowl
game. The first is that it’s one of
those games where the sponsor just decided to do away with the generic name of
the bowl and just insert the product name right there in the name. I feel like that kind of diminishes the
bowl. I assume that the Famous Toastery
Bowl may not be around as early as next season.
If it was just changing sponsor names, they could at least keep the
generic name and change the rest. Now, if
they change it, the history books will only have a record of the winner of this
game – thus establishing exactly zero tradition, but who needs tradition when
you have to sell more of whatever this company makes (honestly, I have no idea
what ‘Famous Toastery’ is – that either makes sponsoring this game brilliant or
really dumb).
Second, this may be the only game where we, as a group, went
against the Vegas Line. I think you can
get away with that when it’s relatively early in the pool and the stakes are
relatively low. 41 people have this game
in the bottom 1/3 of their points distributions. That makes it the Bowl game with the 4th
fewest points wagered on it. Amazingly, we
haven’t a bowl game in the top 28 in points wagered yet. Still a long way to go.
Not sure how much I’m going to be able to watch this
game. I get out of work at 5:30 PST, and
then I go to the gym for about an hour or so and then another 45 minute drive
home puts me there at about 7 or so. I
just looked at when this game goes off – I’m pretty much going to miss all of
it. So it goes. It still counts.
Good luck!!!!!
