Make of this what you will – Of the 6 people who are currently in the top 10 in BOTH points and net points, 4 are women, one is Moochi the Man, and one is a colloquial expression: “Slave to Trends”. Also, of the 7 games played today, only one went to the favorite according to the Vegas line. So far, of the top 8 games that have been played in terms of points wagered, 6 of them went to the underdog. I’m guessing that all the player movement is making these games very hard to predict. I remember in years’ past, hoping that 1 in 3 games would end in an upset. Then again, I remember when players who played in the regular season would actually play in their teams Bowl games, so the landscape of college athletics is definitely changing.
Because of what I said above, it’s not hard to believe that
the average sheet today garnered a -38.43 points. It was some pretty tough sledding out there
in the Bowl pool. Only 14 people won
more points than they lost today. If you
were one of those, you are looking really good right now. If anything, it looks like there are a lot
more people in the running today than there were at the start of the day, and
that’s a good thing. One bad thing about
this pool sometimes is that someone jumps out to a huge lead and the later
games don’t really mean anything. If
things keep going as they are, all games should be relevant, and I like that a
lot.
As I mentioned, there were not a lot of points picked up
today. The average person only got 2.65
games correct all day. The best anyone
did was 5-2, and that was 3 people (Ryan W., “Slave to Trends” and Charlotte
N.). If you remember yesterday, I said I
was particularly worried about Charlotte N., since she may or may not be the
reincarnated mathematician John Nash from “A Beautiful Mind”.
Anyway, here’s who did the best just over the 7 games played
today:
In point alone:
1. Slave to Trends: 137 (-40) |
2. Charlotte N.: 129 (-59) |
3. Klei R.: 115 (-91) |
4. Amber the Beast: 95 (-85) |

7. Sally R.: 88 (-46) |
8. Pete J. #2: 88 (-78) |
9. Jason S.: 87 (-99) |
10. Damien R.: 84 (-105) |

2. Charlotte N.: 70 |
3. Sally R.: 42 |
4. Dennis R.: 37 |

7. Steve M. #2: 20 |
8. Steve M. #1: 14 |
9. Amber the Beast: 10 |
9. Pete J. #2: 10 |
Like I said, net 10 points puts you in the top 10 for the
day. That’s how hard it was.

We are getting to the point where probabilities are about to
show up. Since the structure of the
games is different than March Madness, I don’t have to wait until there are 15
games left. If I only do it with Excel,
I can probably do it before the games on the 28th. That would be 17 games to go. That’s not too bad. I was able to get my AWS Workspace working,
and Python loaded on it, so with any luck I can work on that over the next few
days and be able to get probabilities earlier.
We will see. Either way, I will
keep you posted.
We are off from football for a few days (at least NCAA
football). Next games are on Boxing Day,
so enjoy your holidays and check back in on 12/26 for more updates.
Merry Christmas everyone!!!!
