2 of the Sweet 16 established

Grrrr…  I have no particular love for Kentucky.  I do have love for small conference schools that shoot lots of threes.  If Fletcher McGee would have hit even 25% of his three-point shots, I think that Wofford comes away with the win against Kentucky.  Unfortunately for those of us that don’t like rooting for Goliath, it was not meant to be.

What we’ve got is total chalk so far two games into the Sweet 16.  I suppose it’s good for the teams that picked chalk.  There are a lot of days that I mark as my favorite days of the tournament.  One of my favorite days is the day when the bracket that only went by the seeds gets knocked out of all contention.  Luckily, no one did that this season, but the way these games have gone, a seeds-only bracket would be faring at least decently.  Booo….

The average bracket has got 2.85 points so far today.  108 people went 2/2 so far.  11 people managed to go 0/2, include yours truly.  Ugh…

We are staring to see a little separation between the points only rankings and the net points rankings.  For instance, look at Jacob A.  His bracket is sitting in a very respectable 19^th place in total points.  However, he is 170^th in net points because he is still missing 3 more Sweet 16 teams, 2 Elite 8 teams and a Final 4 team.  That’s a lot of points left on the table.  Given that, 170^th is probably a more accurate representation of how likely this entry is to win than 19^th.  That’s why I like that metric better.

This was the game that Nevada was supposed to be playing in, although it doesn’t look like most people really cared who Michigan was going to play.  This is pretty lopsided.  If Florida somehow pulls off the upset, that will be huge for the 4 people that have Florida, and moderately big for the 27 people that picked Nevada.  See?  There’s always someone to root for.  No game is unimportant.

It’s the T-shirt game of the day.  Murray State is the lowest seeded team I want to see win today.  If their first round game was any indication, Ja Morant seems like he can lead any team to a win.  He was probably the most impressive player in the first round for me.  The trick is that Florida State is huge.  This one seems more like a coin flip to me than a 4.5 point game.  I kinda can’t wait to watch this one.
