NCAA - Day 2 Thomas Walkup for President edition

Remember how I said that I would take 2-1 odds that one of the 13 seeds would win?  Too bad for me that no one took me up on that bet.  Stephen F Austin put up a great performance.  If I had to vote, I think that I'd make Thomas Walkup the player of the tournament so far.  He played just about a perfect game.  I think it's great that I get to watch him play again.  They'll be playing either Michigan or Notre Dame.  I don't think that either of them are as good as West Virginia, so we may be seeing a lot more of Mr. Walkup.

This also qualifies as the 2nd biggest upset of the day.  So far today, we've had a 2, 3 & 4 lose.  That's nuts.  I think that people expected the tournament to be pretty open.  I was telling people that there was going to be crazy upsets, I just didn't know where they were going to come from.  That's the fun of the pool, I guess.

Only 5 people managed to go 4/4 in the last games, including yours truly.  I had forgotten that I took SF Austin.  I'd love to say that I'm smart, but if I look at the Elite 8 matchup I have of Purdue vs Michigan State tells me a different story.

I am currently wearing my Weber State T-shirt, so guess who I am pulling for.  Actually at this point, I am cool with the total bracket anarchy that will be the lower half of the East region if Xavier loses.  They've already started, and they look good, so it seems unlikely, but UALR beat Purdue yesterday, so anything is possible.

Texas / Northern Iowa:

Texas:  151

Northern Iowa: 62

It's the dreaded 11/6 game.  Texas hired my wife's favorite coach, and my in-laws are pretty huge Texas fans, so I guess I'll pull for them.  I will say that one of my favorite moments in NCAA tournament watching history was when Northern Iowa beat Kansas in 2010.  That's not enough for me to go against my family though...

Notre Dame / Michigan

Notre Dame: 167

Michigan: 46

This is another play-in game winner.  At least the committee had the good sense to make the play-in winner play later in the day.  I always say not to overlook the play-in winner, but I think that Michigan is not the level of Wichita State.  Then again, I don't think that Notre Dame is all that great either, so I don't know who'll win this one.  It kind of doesn't matter.  I think whoever wins this game will lose to Stephen F Austin in the next round.

St. Joseph's / Cincinnati

Cincinnati : 108

St. Joseph's: 105

Wow.  It doesn't get much more even than that.  It also is the last chance for a #8 seed to actually win a game.  So far, all 3 #9 seeds have won.  Good times.
