3 Teams into the Sweet 16

 My aversion to this Michigan team is long-storied.  I don’t actually dislike the team in general.  They aren’t a team that I just don’t like like Duke or Kentucky, but I don’t like the premise that if you are a top-10 ranked team in the pre-season, you can’t possibly lose enough times to miss the tournament.  That being said, they look pretty good.  I didn’t think Tennessee looked bad in this game, but they faded a little bit when it counted and that was enough in an otherwise close game.  The legend of Rick Barnes underachieving is alive and well.  Something to remember for next years’ pool, I guess.

Providence looks like the only favorite that is doing what favorites should do, but the games not over, so the score there isn’t included yet.

The UCLA / St. Mary’s game is at half time right now.  St. Mary’s started of pretty fast, but UCLA has come back to take a comfortable lead.  Here are the stats:

A 7-point deficit doesn’t seem like all that much in this tournament.  St. Mary’s could make this one close.  4/5 games are notoriously close, and most of the games today have come right down to the wire.  We’ll see what happens there.  People that have UCLA will be feeling pretty happy if they make it to the Sweet 16, given no Kentucky or Baylor.

Well, if you aren’t one of the 15 people to take Murray State here, you are definitely rooting for St. Peter’s.  It’s the “if I can’t win, no one can win” strategy.  I talked about the nice T-shirt I have for St. Peter’s.  I decided to wear it today.  We’ll see if that is yet again the kiss of death.  It has been so far.  Honestly, I’m not sure it ever works.
