We finally had a really good game today. I watched every second of the Miami / USC game. It looked like Miami was going to cruise, but I think there was something like 15 lead changes in the second half. There was also a last second heave that almost went in. Just a really fun game. The Notre Dame / Alabama and Virginia Tech / Texas games look like they might be heading in that same direction.
Before I send out the standings, I want to take the time to
point out the differences between the two rankings. We have a new leader in total points. Irene H. #6 is the only person to reach 19
points so far. That puts her in 1st
in points. However, Irene H. #6 also has
Kentucky winning the tournament, so she is 187th in net points. I think the second number is closer to be
accurate regarding where this bracket finishes.
That’s really about as good an example as I could come up with.

There’s
about a half left of basketball before the last 8 games go off, so here are the
breakdowns for the next set of four:

I think Illinois was a pre-season top 10 team, and through
injuries and COVID, they didn’t have as good a season as they would have
liked. That’s why they are the #4 seed
right now. Chattanooga won their conference
tournament on a last second midcourt shot, but they are legit. They have a lot of size for a small
conference team, including a guy that started his career at Kansas before
transferring to Chattanooga (which seems like a strange direction to transfer,
but what do I know). This whole section
of the bracket seems up for grabs. Not
only this game, but he 12/5 area as well.

really anti-climatic if this is Coach K.’s last game. Fun fact, I’ve never been to see a game in
Durham, but I have seen a few games in Fullerton. It’s more of a gym than a stadium, but it
wasn’t too crowded and it had good parking.

This may have been the hardest game to pick coming into the
tournament. Neither team has been
playing particularly well, so no matter who you took, they were going to have
to play against form. LSU looks better
on paper, but they just fired their head coach about a week ago. Honestly, he had a very checkered history at
LSU, so it didn’t come as a big surprise that he got fired, but no one seems to
have any idea how that will effect the team.
This is about as black box of a game as I can think of. The range of possible outcomes here seems
almost limitless.
Vegas Line: Arizona -21.5
Picks for Arizona: 208
Picks for Wright State: 4
I have been super high on Arizona for the last 2
months. I have them clearly as the #1
team in the country. I hope they absolutely
destroy Wright State. I want them to win
by 40. I’ll be really nervous if they
only win by 10, and I’m not even going to entertain the notion that they will
not win this game.
