Standings - 2 games in

 OK. We have results of 2 games.  Technically, there was one upset – it just wasn’t the one I was really hoping for.  Michigan pulled away after a big first half deficit, and I can already hear people the root for Michigan saying that is “proved they belong”.  Those people are wrong.  There are 68 teams in the tournament.  There are another 40-50 teams that didn’t make it that “could” win a game.  Winning one does not disprove my theory that they shouldn’t have been in at all.

As for the Jackrabbits, they made it pretty lose in the second half, but a crucial foul on a 3-point shot as the shot clock was running down pretty much just cost them the game.  Too bad for them.  Good job to the Friars.  They looked decent.

So, the way I have the standings is as follows:  The first ranking is based on how many points you’ve won.  The most anyone can have right now is 2.  The tiebreaker is based on how many points you have lost.  So, if I had Colorado State in the Sweet 16, my bracket will have at least (-3) assigned to it.  One point for the 1^st round loss, and -2 for the second round game they will also not win.  I also post something called net points, which is points won-points lost.  That one best approximates the health of a bracket.  For example, you could win a lot of games in the first round and your gross points would be pretty high, but if the one game you lost was Colorado State winning the Championship, your bracket is really unhealthy.  Net points would tell you that.

So, 57 people are 2/2 and 37 are 0/2.  The rest are the bulky 1/1 middle.

For those that are interested, every year I rail against anyone gutless enough to pick only by the seeds.  I don’t think anyone did that this year, but I wanted to further discourage people from doing it.  So, to that end, I submitted a bracket only by the seeds called “Chalk for Charity”.  If that bracket win, I will donate all winnings to the Red Cross.  Hopefully, this will keep other people from submitting the same bracket, since if it happened to win, you would essentially be dividing the winnings up and taking money away from the Red Cross – and what kind of heartless ghoul would ever do such a thing.

It looks like Memphis is busy making sure the Mountain West goes 0/3 super early in the tournament and I haven’t checked on Baylor, but I’m gonna guess they are mopping the floor with Norfolk State (meh +16 at half time).
