5 games into Day 4

 I thought we might have an upset in this set of three games.  I kind of though it would be Notre Dame.  I didn’t think there was a lot of chance Wisconsin would lose essentially at home against a team that started the season on fire, but faded pretty far by the end of the season.  That, they say, is why they play the games.

I’ve been watching a lot of these games, and I have two observations – and they are related.  The first is that officials are “letting them play”.  That essentially means that they are not calling a lot of fouls that seem like obvious fouls.  That leads to my second observation – a lot of these games have been almost unwatchable.  Nobody can shoot.  Layups are consistently missed.  I’ll be really impressed if any team gets to 75 points in a game.  There are a lot of 50-45 games going into the final minutes.  It’s kind of tough to watch.

USC was the trendy pick here, until they lost.  Miami was leading at half time.  If Auburn manages to go down, that theoretically would only help Kansas.  There’s a lot of game left, and Auburn has a lot of talent, so I would never count them out.

Purdue has got to be salivating at the prospect of this game.  They are the lowest-remaining seed in this region.  If they win this game, they get St. Peter’s and then the winner of North Carolina / UCLA to make the Final 4.  That goal has to seem totally reachable if you are the Boilermakers.  Unfortunately for them, this is the lowest point spread of the day.  Even Houston was favored by more over Illinois.  I have the same opinion of Texas that I had of Michigan or Alabama.  I don’t think  they deserved to be there, much less a #6 seed.  But they are here, so they’ve got a chance.

This is the biggest line of the day.  My hope is that this game is over really early so that I can start calculating odds.  We all know I love Arizona in this bracket.  I’d just be lying to everyone to play it like I want a good game or something.  I want a blow out.
