So much for New Mexico State being a good value bet. Kansas looks every bit the #2 seed. New Mexico State has been down pretty much
the whole game between 10-15 points, and never really seems like they are
threatening Kansas.
After some early struggles, Michigan State is looking like
the team I thought they would be. One
thing I noticed in this game, and I noticed in a lot of other games is that
players seem to really miss a lot of point blank lay-ups. Georgia missed a number of these types of
shots in the first half of their game.
That seems incomprehensible to me how that happens. I'm sure the game looks a lot easier from my
couch, but these guys are all shooting from about 2 feet from the basket and
are all at least a foot taller than me.
Maybe they do make these shots most of the time, and it just seems like
they miss them a lot because they stand out.
We've got 2 more games coming up, and they are everyone's
favorite 5/12 matchups. 5 seeds went 2/2
yesterday (Arkansas, Utah), but as everyone knows, 5 seeds lose every year.
The first game up is Wyoming/Northern Iowa.
Northern Iowa: 155
Wyoming: 51
Vegas Line: Northern
Iowa -6
For perspective, this is the same line as the MSU/Georgia
game, and 25 more people took Wyoming as took Georgia. Normally I'd think it was due to more respect
for Wyoming, or less respect for Northern Iowa, but it's really because so
money people in the pool are MSU homers.
The second 5/12 game is West Virginia / Buffalo
West Virginia: 141
Buffalo: 65
Vegas Line: West
Virginia -4.5
This seems reasonable to me.
As a Western Michigan University alumnus, I feel compelled to always
pull for the MAC team in the tournament.
They don't let me down more times than not. I'm hoping the somewhat favorable matchup for
Buffalo pays off in a victory for the MAC.
I'm not a huge Bobby Hurley fan from his days at Duke, but if he can
coach them to a victory, I might forgive him for all those Duke years in the
90s.
Good luck to everyone!!
I'll have standings updates next time.
