Another 2 games in the books, and another monumental
upset. This one was probably more
dramatic than the first. Georgia State
won a shot that looked like it was closer to center court than the three point
line. Baylor totally choked down the
stretch. Every time it looked like they
brought the ball up the court, it seemed like they didn't bother to get into
their offense until 5 second were left on the shot clock. Throw in some crucial missed free throws, and
that's how upsets are made.
The carnage was extensive.
161 people had Baylor in the Sweet 16.
31 people had them in the Elite 8.
11 people had them in the Final 4.
3 people had them all the way to the Championship game, and 2 unlucky
souls (Virginia L. #2, Irene H. #3) had them winning it all. That hurts.
This also marks (after three games) when we lost all of our
perfect brackets. Last year, we had at
least one person go 16/16 on the first day.
This year we couldn't even manage 3/3.
I thought this would be a strange tournament, but I had idea just how strange.
In other news, Arizona pummeled Texas Southern. I didn't watch hardly any of that game. At least most people got that one right. It's little consolation...

The Butler/Texas game and the SMU/UCLA games are wrapping up,
so I'll get back to them in a little bit.
There are 2 more games coming up, and who knows what's going to happen
in those.
Xavier / Mississippi:
Xavier: 121
Ole Miss: 85
Vegas Line: Xavier -2
I always love to take the play-in winner. Every year since they've had one, at least
one of the play in winners has made the Sweet 16. I figured I'd take both of them. Even if I go 1/2, I'm probably ahead of the
field. Besides, the play-in winner
shouldn't have any jitters about the tournament. Should be a fun game to watch.
The other game is another good match up. VCU/Ohio State
Ohio State: 127
VCU: 79
Vegas Line: Ohio State -4
Given that Ohio State is the 10 seed in this region, it's a
little surprising to see that they are picked as an upset by so many
people. Then again, Vegas agrees with
us, so maybe it's not so strange. It
promises to be a good game regardless.
It's also a bit of a tie-breaker game.
Since there are so many people that have the same teams at the end of
the tournament, it's games like this that amount to the tie-breaker. You want to make sure that you are ahead of
all the people that have similar Final 4 teams, and getting these games right
goes a long way towards that goal.
