March Madness - Day 1 : Before first games

All right.  This is easily the earliest I have ever finished entering picks into my master scoring spreadsheet.  The games just started, so entry is over.  If I get any more entries, I will have to tell them it is too late.

Like I thought, we have fewer entries this year.  There was a total of 206.  That's pretty decent given all the restrictions I put on entering.  I also took better records of payments, and I'm waiting for 152 entries to be paid for.  That's not too surprising since most of them are being paid for by a check in the mail.  I'll keep that up as I get payments.  So far, so good....

There are 2 games first off this morning.  The committee really wanted to make sure that no one really felt they were missing out with these first two games, as the picks seem wholly lopsided.  The first game is Notre Dame / Northeastern.  I personally don't like this game, because the first 2 letters are the same for both schools, so I had to spell out "NOT" every time before Excel would autofill the pick - at least after someone finally picked Northeastern (there was a long time).

The pick distribution for the first game was:

Notre Dame: 202

Northeastern : 4

Notre Dame is currently losing.  How fun would that be?!?!  I love upsets and that would be a real whopper.

The second game is Iowa State / UAB.  This pick is almost equally lopsided:

Iowa State: 201

UAB: 5

Vegas Line: Iowa State -14.5

As someone that has Iowa State going to the championship game, I hope this is a blowout, although I like UAB generally.  They have a dragon mascot, and they just killed off their football program, so they've had a tough year.  Despite that, I hope they get blown out by 40 points.  I don't want to have to sweat that game out.
