The Chalk-y side of the Elite 8 edition



There were some pretty decent games tonight, but the higher seeds won all 4 games.  2 #1's, a #2 and a #3 seed all won tonight.

A few comments:   I am a bad alumnus of Western Michigan because I didn't know that Matt Stainbrook from Xavier played there for 2 years.  He might be my favorite player of the tournament.  He looks like a slob, but had a lot of sweet post moves.  If I was 6'10", I'd like to think I play like that, but I'm sure I couldn't.  He almost got them the upset of Arizona, but it looked like they ran out of gas at the end.

I guess someone could beat Kentucky, but it sure as hell wasn't going to be West Virginia.  Is it possible that Hampton played them closer than the Mountaineers?  That was a train wreck, or dumpster fire, or any other analogy you can think of for a terrible performance.  Not every team matches up as poorly as West Virginia did with Kentucky, but you really have to like your chances if you took Kentucky.

Since virtually all the favorites won today, it should be no surprise that a lot of points were gathered by teams, and not a ton of people were eliminated from contention.  78 people went 4/4.  83 went 3/4.  The average amount of points earned today was 12.33.  There's no chance that will happen tomorrow.  We actually had one person get 0 points today.  That person was the Paul Bunyon of picking college basketball games, Jonathan O.  Amazingly, his bracket is still not eliminated from all contention (although it can no longer get 1st or 2nd).
