NCAA Day 1 - 2 games complete

We finally have some results.  Both of the #5 seeds survived to play another day, although a few bounces one way or the other could have led to a different outcome.  Fun games all the way around, but I'm still on the lookout for the first of the tournament.  As of right now, it doesn't look Butler is going to be that upset, but Winthrop has got it to within 10 in the second half, so there's a chance.  Also, South Dakota State was beating a pretty lackluster Gonzaga squad  for most of the 1st half.  It reminded me a little of the Gonzaga team a few years ago that was a #1 seed.  They struggled in the 1/16 game before losing to Wichita State in the second round.  That's not anything that Gonzaga fans want to hear, but that's what this game reminded me of.

Anyway, for those that are new, here's how the scoring goes in the first 2 rounds.  The rankings are determined by how many points you have won.  The tiebreaker is how many points you've lost.  For example, if you went 1-1 in these first games, your score will look like 1(-1).  1 for the points you've won, and (-1) for the points you lost in the game you got wrong.  If you lost a team that you had going to the Sweet 16, your score will look like: 1(-3).  That's the tiebreaker.  I also will have the net points, which is just the sum of the 2 numbers.  I think that the net points is more accurate in gauging the health of the sheet.  I will do this until the Sweet 16 is established, then I'll convert over to proabilities of winning.  More on that as it gets closer.

I think people really fell in love with ETSU here.  Based on the point spread, I don't think that as many people should have taken ETSU.  Then again, what do I know?  ETSU was the favorite #13 seed people had to win.  I really hope someone pulls some upsets.  I hate to see Gutless brackets get rewarded.  Luckily for me (and all of us), only one person had the mind-numbing cowardice to pick only by the seeds.  I wish that bracket only ill.  Maybe SDSU can pull the upset and totally screw that bracket over.
