NCAA Day 2 - 4 perfect brackets remain

I keep making the case for a big upset, and I don't seem to be getting even a modest upset.  I thought I heard that someone was giving $1M for anyone that got a perfect opening round bracket.  At this rate, it's hard to imagine that there will be a lot of payouts for that.  We only lost 2 people from the ranks of the undefeated.  That means we still have 4 people who are 18/18.

I was hoping that New Mexico State could pull the big upset, but this Baylor game looked a lot like some of the other games with high seeds like Mt. St. Mary's and South Dakota State.  Those teams hung tough with the favorites for a half, but then got blown out in the second half.  You can add NMSU to that tally.

There is also a recurring theme here in regards to people not losing Sweet 16 teams.  Exactly zero people had New Mexico State in the Sweet 16.  Only 10 people had Oklahoma State there.  That means that we still have 104 people that have yet to lose a Sweet 16 team.

This seems about right to me.  Jacksonville will probably get crushed in this game.  That didn't stop me from wearing my Jacksonville State t-shirt today.  For those that don't know, I have a ridiculously extensive t-shirt collection (my wife swears it tops 300 - I'm not so sure).  Regardless, I try to pick the lowest seed possible to wear on the opening 4 days.  Today that's Jacksonville State, although I think I have a UC Davis t-shirt too, so I am violating my own rule.  Anyway, go Gamecocks!!!!

This is the first of the play-in winners to play today.  I'm scratching my head a little on this one, since Kansas State won on Tuesday, yet they play later today - that means they got an extra day of rest.  I always thought the Tuesday winners play on Thursday, and the Wednesday winners play Friday.  I guess the only team that got screwed on this deal was Mt. St. Mary's, since they were the only play-in winner to play yesterday.

I always encourage people to take the play-in winner to win a game in the tournament.  I think history has played out in my favor on that one.  This one should pretty entertaining.  SMU has something to play for here because they were excluded from the tournament last year, and they were snubbed a few years back.  As I mentioned earlier, I have them in the Sweet 16, so I hope they win.
