Every year, going into the tournament, there are lower seeded teams that people seem to really like.  A lot of them wind up as disappointments (like McNeese State).  Grand Canyon is one of those teams.  People seemed to like them quite a bit.  The true test of whether they are a team that people will remember is if they make it to the Sweet 16.  They looked a lot better than St. Mary’s in the first game, so you kind of like their chances in this game.  Then again, James Madison looked a lot better than Wisconsin in the first round, and they got killed in the second round.

It’s the t-shirt game of the day.  Yesterday was definitely the kiss of death for Duquesne, so I’m hoping this game is different – or at least ends differently.  Duquesne got run out of the gym yesterday.  Actually, I am really. Really hoping that Northwestern pulls a big upset.  We have been void of huge upsets, and this would mark the biggest one of the tournament by a mile.  This tournament needs that kind of shake up.  The favorites have not only been winning, but they have been winning by a lot lately.

I am a total hypocrite when it comes to calling for upsets.  If it’s a team a little asi asi about, I really want them to be upset.  If it’s a team I picked, I want the other team to just not even bother coming out after halftime.  I hope Houston wins convincingly in this game.  I’ve been in love with this Houston team for over 2 years now, and I want that to pay off with me doing well in my own pool.

Fun fact, I went to the San Diego State / UCSD game way back in December.  UCSD almost won the game.  San Diego State only won on a shot off an offensive rebound at the buzzer.  The funniest thing about that game was the UCSD students chanting “Safety School” during the game.  I graduated from San Diego State, and even I thought that was funny.  There are some out there, that think SDSU is primarily a party school.  Yale, on the other hand, does not have that reputation.  Interesting contrast, I think.

Anyway, like Houston, I hope San Diego State pounds Yale into pebbles in the first half and then into dust in the second half.  That would be great.  Let’s hope that happens.
