Well that’s more like it. Not so much the outcome of the San Diego State game. That was horrible, but upsets!!! Lots of them. Lots of really big ones. If you managed to get a lot of points today, you are in very good shape. If you managed to survive today, you are in at least pretty good shape.
My big plan was to send out an update between games with
eliminations and scores, etc… but then I
realized that by the time I finished updating all of my spreadsheets, it was
almost halftime of the Alabama / North Carolina game and I hadn’t watched any
of it. That’s not great for me, so I
punted and told myself I’d do it all tonight.
Anyway, today was a really rough one. We had exactly 1 person go 4/4. That was Howard S. #2, who is my go-to person
whenever I want a contrarian opinion on anything. Up until today, that opinion wasn’t looking
so great, but guess who’s laughing now.
Howard is. It’s Howard. More on him in a second.
For those that don’t remember because I started putting out
the probabilities of winning this thing, I am also giving out $25 for the
person that does the best in each region, so there are 4 chances to win
there. There are interesting outcomes in
both regions that played games today.
Let’s start in the East.
Connecticut looks a lot like an unstoppable force, and this is just a 3-week
march to a second consecutive coronation, but there are still games to go and
they didn’t go undefeated this season, so it’s possible they could still
lose. The interesting thing as far as
this pool goes, is that April K. is still undefeated in this region. You would think that would help her chances
to win the whole thing, but she got knocked out of 1st place
contention tonight when North Carolina lost.
Still, if Illinois wins the region, she will have picked every game
right and won $25. If Connecticut wins
the East, it will be a 3-way tie for the East Champion between Brandon B. #2,
Brooklyn B. and Mike N. All of them have
only lost 2 points in this region so far.
Unfortunately, I’m not doing tie-breakers, so everyone would get about $8.33,
which ain’t much but does cover the cost of entry, so not nothing.
In the West, things are a little clearer, although no one is
perfect, we do have an interesting result already. There are only 2 people alive to win the
West. However, one of them has exactly 8
points more than the other person. Here’s
what that means. Howard S. #2 has only missed
the Nevada / Dayton game in this region and currently sits at 23 points. He has Alabama winning the region. If that happens, he gets all $25. Daisy N. #2 has not fared nearly as well, but
she does currently have 15 points and Clemson winning the region. If Clemson wins, then she finished also with
23 points, and she will split the West prize with Howard S. #2. So, congratulations, Howard! You are the first guaranteed prizewinner in
the pool.
OK. I’m sure more of you right now are either skipping all of this, or saying, “Who cares.. get to the matrix already”. There were a LOT of eliminations today, so pay extra close attention to your brackets in case they are already dead:
